What You will Recieve: 1 Saree

Ajoba wanted her to be raised close to nature. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, away from readymade routines. “Children sparkle in the lap of nature — amidst vales, rivulets and crickets,” he had shared in one of his letters. Named after his favourite Tagore character, Chitrangada, she felt pressured to become someone she was not. While daddy read Ajoba’s letter, she thought to herself, “I am not a warrior princess like Chitrangada. I am me.” But who’s she? For days and months, the question kept popping up. She had instructed her mind to keep it under wraps, in the corridors of confusion. But minds were never meant to be obedient.

At some point, after spending a teenage summer in Spandan — Ajoba’s two-room mud house in Sakurli, she had an answer. “She” is a voice. A voice that makes itself heard. A voice that stands its ground. She is the voice of courage. And for the first time in life, she felt a lot like herself; a lot like Chitrangada.

Find your voice in this handwoven blue and green Mashru saree. Made of the finest cotton and silk, this striking saree comes alive with subtle gold and silver zari detailing.

This saree has been handwoven by a master weaver in the Mashru tradition. The Mashru weave is said to have originated in West Asia, in the 19th Century. The fabric is woven with a silk weft and a fine cotton warp. It thus combines the ageless comfort of cotton and the timeless aesthetic of silk, elevated by the presence of gold and silver zari.
