Although she felt slightly under the weather, she woke up especially early that morning. She rushed towards the living room, eager to start her day by unwrapping the presents she’d been breathlessly waiting for, all night long. She held the beautifully packaged boxes close to her chest, convinced they contained everything her little heart desired. One of the boxes seemed a little heavier than the others, which aroused her curiosity. She tore the wrapping paper to unveil its contents – four sparkling prisms, made of quartz. Surprised, for she didn’t quite know what to make of them, she turned to her father who smiled knowingly and pulled out four lengths of string. He used these to fasten each prism to the window frame, so that the first rays of the morning sun filtered in through them. Her jaw dropped in wonder when she saw the little rainbows, dancing on the wall. This was the best birthday ever, for she was ready to quartz the day away!
